Hi, my name is Zheng Chin.

We need change. Communities across Victoria are struggling, and our government must do more. That's why I'm running as a progressive independent for Preston.

With a PhD in Urban Planning, I know that vibrant places and connected communities help people thrive. It's not just about buildings and infrastructure, it's about the places we share, the relationships we build and ensuring everyone can participate in community life.

 

But actions speak louder than words.

 

For years, I've fought alongside the Save the Preston Market action group to prevent the demolition of Preston Market. I ran for local council to put the Market in public hands, and supported Gaetano's 2022 state campaign, where I saw the impact of a strong independent voice.

 

You might also see me cycling around Preston with my partner and our little ones. My love of cycling led me to start a bicycle library for kids, where families can borrow rather than buy bikes and kids can learn, share and build confidence together.

 

Community is also something I grew up with. My family has run a Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne's north for 35 years. For many, places like ours are more than somewhere to eat, they're places to meet others and build connections. Growing up with the restaurant showed me that everyday community places matter.

I love our community, but I know it can be better. I want Preston to be affordable, connected and welcoming, with great public spaces and services and protect the places which make Preston special.
