Extend the Gilbert Road Tram Line
If elected I will fight to extend the Gilbert Road tram line to Reservoir Station.
Connecting the network
Route 11 currently travels from the city through Fitzroy and Northcote before terminating at the corner of Gilbert Road and Regent Street. Extending the tram along Gilbert Road to Reservoir would create a much stronger public transport connection through Melbourne's north and connect the tram network directly with Reservoir Station and the Reservoir activity centre.
Extending Route 11 would do more than add a few kilometres of tram track.
It could create a direct public transport connection between Reservoir and communities along Gilbert Road, Northcote, Fitzroy and the city while creating an interchange with trains and buses at Reservoir.
I will fight for:
-
A detailed feasibility and route study for extending Route 11 along Gilbert Road.
-
A connection to Reservoir Station and the Reservoir activity centre.
-
State Government funding to plan and deliver the extension.
-
Integration with existing train and bus services.
-
Safe and accessible tram stops along the route.
-
Better walking and cycling connections around stops.
