Transport for the public
If elected I will fight to ensure that public transport is free for all Victorians and improve access to new and existing services.
Free and frequent public transport
Public transport is a public service. I will fight to make it free, frequent and reliable.
The cost of everyday life has risen dramatically.
Rent, mortgages, groceries, energy and other essentials are taking more out of household budgets. Transport is another cost families have to carry simply to get to work, school, appointments or see friends and family.
I believe public transport should be treated as essential public infrastructure.
Make public transport free
Victoria has already shown that free public transport is possible.
In 2026, public transport across Victoria was made temporarily free before moving to half-price fares for the remainder of the year. I want us to go further.
I will fight to make public transport permanently free across Victoria.
Removing fares would put money directly back into people's pockets and make it easier for everyone to get around — whether you are commuting to work, studying, taking children to school or simply visiting friends and family.
Free isn't enough. It needs to be frequent.
There is little point having a bus stop near your home if the bus only comes every 30 or 40 minutes.
A genuinely useful public transport network should allow people to turn up and know that another service isn't far away.
That means investing in frequency as well as affordability.
I will fight for:
-
Free public transport across Victoria.
-
More frequent trains, trams and buses.
-
Better evening and weekend services.
-
More reliable connections between trains, trams and buses.
-
Better bus services across Melbourne's north.
-
Accessible stops, stations and vehicles.
-
Investment in public transport that gives people a genuine alternative to driving.
Public transport connects us to jobs, education, healthcare, shops, friends and community. Let's make it a public service everyone can afford to use - because it is free.
